What is Facial Renewal Acupuncture and why it is becoming popular as a natural alternative to botox?

Updated: Aug 29, 2022

Facial Acupuncture is a whole body experience, it works from the inside out.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) sees skin care issues as a combination of internal and external problems. I look for the root cause and I treat both. The skin is assessed holistically I ask lots of questions about sleep, stress, digestion, nutrition, needles are placed not only on the face, but on the body, to support the TCM systems affecting the skin like the lungs, stomach, spleen, large intestine, and so on.

The treatment begins with body Acupuncture to relax the mind, balance hormones, diffuse digestive discomfort and increase blood production and flow. Then an acupuncture treatment is performed on the face to bring focus to the areas of concern.

The tiny pins create micro-traumas in the skin that promotes collagen and elastin production as well as increase the healing rate of the skin in the specifically needled areas.

Most people take a lovely ‘acu nap’ once the needles are in place—this is the best state for healing.

In my clinic, I combine this ancient modality with modern therapy of Celluma LED light therapy- this device use specific wavelengths of light energy to improve cellular health by accelerating the repair and replenishment of compromised tissue cells for enhanced skin appearance.

The Facial Renewal Acupuncture also includes Guasha and a little face tuina/massage, transforming stagnant emotions, breath work and more

Does Facial Renewal Acupuncture work?

Definitely! Research shows the mechanisms that acupuncture conveys in the face, creating meaningful results. How fast depends on your health, the condition of your skin, your age, and how often I see you. A series is usually recommended, but most people see a noticeable improvement in one treatment—they see what’s possible. People are usually pleasantly surprised.

Does it hurt?

You might feel a few of the needle insertions, especially on the body. Most report a bit of a dull sensation or heavy feeling, but the facial needles are really tiny and not painful.

How many treatments do I need?

Facial Renewal Acupuncture is an organic approach that is very cumulative in nature. This also depends on someone’s age, constitution, life-style and skin care routine. Some of my clients see the glow right after their first treatment. Some people comes once a week, once a month, or anytime they feel like they need to disconnect from their busy world, to de-stress and to relax.

If you think this is for you, I’m always happy to talk someone through the process on the phone prior to an appointment, and I walk them through what’s going on during the first treatment. BOOK online:
